seventeen years

today is the day we celebrate seventeen years of marriage.
all the ordinary daily tasks,
all the steady intention and work,
all the gazing in the eyes of what we’ve created.
seventeen years.

(some of my special shelf items arranged in honor of our anniversary)

i’m not sure where i first found these words, all i know is i liked them and copied them and emailed them to myself.  so, thank you, writer, for sharing the sweetness that seems fitting for today:

The best things are the nearest:
breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes,
flowers at your feet, duties at your hand,
the path of God just before you.
Then do not grasp at the stars,
but do life’s plain, common work as it comes,
certain that daily duties and daily bread
are the sweetest things in life.

blessed be.

  1. Oh happy, happy anniversary! How well we remember highlights of the last 17 years. What a gift to have watched you find each other, grow together, and to be blessed to be part of your life as a family… I too love the quote about the sweetness of remembering the little, every day things.

Love you so much, mom and dad
