now that days have passed, i can remember clearly the best things about our trip to markham…i have almost forgotten things like eliza peeing in her car seat, naomi calling out: “micah is trying to pick the skin off my foot!” (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?), micah indeed trying to pick the skin off naomi’s feet. yup, almost forgotten.

things worth remembering:
my little childhood home…only when i lived there it was barn red…and better kept. my room was the window on the second floor and i used to watch the traffic lights change from red to green to yellow to red until i fell asleep. you can barely see them here:

the glorious thrift shop…clothes in rainbow order…eliza so content. we visit every time. lately jerry says, “if you find something you think i might want-don’t buy it. if you find something you know i would want-don’t buy it.” for the record, he has found things.

my favorite pizza place…eating with dear uncle chuck and aunt gwen, then again the next night…spinach calabrese two nights in a row!
• • • • • • • • • • • • • •
walking in the forest preserve…letting sally run free.
• • • • • • • • • • • • • •
walking the same asphalt that i did for my first 13 years…so much is the same. we were one of several cars near these birds. they come right to the car waiting for bits of food. this now strip-mall used to be goldblat’s department store when i was really little.

reconnecting with auntie tricia and uncle jonny…and now longing for a new macbook so we can distort our faces on a regular basis. naomi loved it…late night fun.
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
coffee every morning, with cream, with fresh fruit, with table wiped clean the night before.
• • • • • • • • • • • •
rain to make the ride home cozy…made coziest for micah with his sleeping pal, sal.
• • • • • • • • • • • • •
beef jerky makes the ride go well…except for poor sal.

we came home to gardens needing tending (nan, look how the earth produced!!)
and summer at home begins again…
Should we ever meet, I volunteer to go thrifting with you.

My heart is so warmed to see your childhood home. And the famous thrift store that has brought us so many goodies. Someday I would love to be there and see you as you walk those streets.

So glad ya’ll made it home safe and sound. There is really nothing like the luxury of going “home”. It feels like a giant hug from the universe! All the familiar spots, changed and not changed, they give a girl perspective, no?
What kind of car do you guys drive? I’m intrigued by two rows of seats, rather than the captions chairs with a row in the back…we are in the market for a bigger ride around here.
