oh, miss sal…we remember how we saw you in the back of a pick up on a hot day and brought you home.
and today you turn one year old.
watching people, on alert, ready to bark a hello. we went to the trail and delighted in her running free kicking up wood chips and dirt behind her. the creek was flowing fast from all our rain, but she still took a splash in.
looking at this water, i wondered why kids in kansas don’t answer “brown” when asked what color water is. we saw some new sights…
snacks all around…
then headed home for much needed showers.
i grabbed the camera to document the blessed moment of a “sunshower.” since naomi was little, she would delight if the sun was shining in on her bath or shower. she has passed the enthusiasm on to micah.
our upstairs bathroom begs for light to come in…and our years-old window art of a sun adds a shadow worth remembering.
well, the happy moments of the day are documented.
there are no photos of breakfast rolls that didn’t rise enough, kids eating candy before 8:30 since the rolls weren’t ready, water spilled over the floor many times, rocks in the bed (not funny), f.i.g.h.t.i.n.g. between the oldest two, eliza calling out: “everyone is stupid, everyone is.” (though i felt like saying, yup, you’re right), jerry and i tired and cranky at each other, a too-expensive lunch out, no diet coke in the house (better for me, i know, but i think it would have helped), laundry that is probably stinky in the washer still, mice (pets for jerry’s work that will have babies to feed to the pet snake. n.a.s.t.y. and w.r.o.n.g.) that are smelling up micah’s room, desperate threats of i-don’t-know-what-will-happen-but-something-will-if-you-ask-
me-one-more-time-if-you-can-buy-a-book during a book shop stop.
you know, if there were photos of these moments, i would probably benefit from them.
Wow, thanks for the honesty at the end of this post.

At least we all know life at your house is like life at other houses…not always beautiful and sweet. Years from now you’ll remember mostly the good times and you’ll have beautiful photos to prove it.

Yes, honesty is good because it makes me realize that our life is normal after all.

Beautiful day (beautiful sun-lit shower — i love it!)
And yes, even beauty in the bickering, flat rolls, fights and begging. They are part of real life — its always encouraging to me that ours is not the only household in the world that deals with such challenges.
