visit

i’ve been thinking more of this store friend…
we went in the store so we could experience it…
a poverty stricken old joint…
to gawk and wonder at the outdated food…
to imagine the life…
to ponder how many people visited before us…
and now i am humbled…

this woman sits and waits…
her patience to serve her community is incredible…
she is ready and vulnerable…
she sits and listens to the radio…
thinks of her husband
gone for 10 years already…
says she may as well sit at the store
she’d be sitting at home anyway…
alone but ready
for someone to come in.
